I’ve always been fascinated with fonts. Some of my favorite exercises in design school were ones where we were to explore typography and push the boundaries of our perception of them. Their shapes, close up, as in real close up, form compositions as a sort of microcosm of the whole.
Since becoming a professional designer in the professional world, I haven’t played with fonts and type in a long time. Then, one day I started drawing these ovals and making letters inside of them and playing with how many different ways i could make an “e” inside of the oval. Then, as the series progressed, the challenge was to explore shape options for each letter while creating a symbiosis as a family of letters.
